Bad Shapes is a DIY band from Philadelphia formed in 2018. They released their debut S/T full-length album on March 27, 2020 and a follow up Quarantine EP on August 28, 2020. Drawing influence from the experimental inventiveness of post-punk and the atmospheric elements of post-rock, Bad Shapes’ music seeks to always create commonality between discomfort and discovery.
Sludge Summer is Bad Shapes’ latest record released June 4, 2021. The six songs were written during the 2020 quarantine, the majority coming from the two free-form jams that were recorded with a field recorder when the band first came to play together in the Fall of 2020. The field recordings can be found on the band’s Soundcloud page: 2021.11.05A, 2021.11.05B, 2021.11.12. From there, the band stitched together and developed parts that would eventually become Social Lite, the Dead Hand, and the self-titled Sludge Summer.
Period is the final song of the release and is Bad Shapes’ wave goodbye as this is likely the band’s final release.
